Urgent Reminder

With the rapid development of the cross-border e-commerce industry, various market entities have increasingly strict requirements for product compliance. E-commerce platforms have also followed suit and actively responded to various new regulations.

Recently, one of the “Four Emerging Powers” in the e-commerce industry, TikTok Shop, released an important notice. The content is a compliance guideline for battery regulations in the European Union market, which sets out a series of strict requirements for sellers who sell batteries and battery-containing products on the TikTok Shop platform. According to the compliance guideline, sellers need to complete the EPR (Producer Responsibility Extension System) registration process with the corresponding EU country/region-related institutions by August 18, 2025, and upload the valid producer registration number through the compliance portal of the TikTok Shop platform.

This registration number is like a “pass” for goods in the EU market. Without it, the goods will face the risk of being removed from the platform and the store may be banned. The urgency of this regulation is self-evident. The time given to sellers for preparation is very limited. Sellers need to act quickly, review the registration process, prepare relevant materials, and ensure that the registration is completed on time.

It is worth noting that as early as July last year, Amazon had already made requirements for platform sellers regarding the new EU battery law regulations. It adopted a similar attitude to that of TikTok Shop, that is, all independent batteries and built-in batteries sold in the EU must complete registration and submit the relevant registration numbers by August 18, 2025. Otherwise, there will be a risk of the products being suspended from sale.

From this, it can be seen that the new EU battery law regulations are quite significant and are an important matter that major e-commerce platforms attach great importance to. It is worth noting that the EU has always been known for its strict compliance supervision. Looking back, in many fields such as environmental protection and product safety, the EU has always maintained a zero-tolerance attitude towards enterprises and merchants that violate regulations. Once it is discovered that a product does not meet the requirements of relevant regulations, the relevant EU departments will not only quickly take decisive measures such as removing the product from the shelves and conducting recalls, but also impose severe penalties on the involved enterprises and merchants.

Therefore, sellers must not have any mentality. More detailed information requires sellers to carefully study the compliance guideline issued by TikTok Shop. They need to have a clear understanding of aspects such as product safety standards, compliance certificates, and market supervision procedures to avoid misunderstandings and unexpected situations. After all, once judged as non-compliant, the consequences can be significant or minor. Sellers should do their best to prevent such situations from occurring.
