The three major ports signed contracts!
On April 22, Hubei Port Group, Jiangxi Provincial Port Group, and Xiangshui Group Hunan Port Group held a strategic cooperation symposium and signing ceremony for port and shipping enterprises in the three provinces of Hubei, Jiangxi and Hunan in Wuhan. This is an important measure to further implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on “strengthening cooperation in the Yangtze River Basin”. It is a powerful action to promote the construction of the economic zone in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. The strategic needs of the development pattern are also specific actions for port and shipping companies in the three provinces of Hunan, Jiangxi and Hubei to strengthen cooperation, complement each other’s advantages, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
At the National “Two Sessions” in 2023, the three provinces of Hubei, Hunan, and Jiangxi jointly proposed to regard the economic zone in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River as an important part of the development strategy of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and strive to build an important strategic fulcrum for the construction of a new national development pattern and an important national growth pole. At present, according to the idea of “one province, one port”, the ports of the three provinces have realized integrated operations, and it is time for the ports of the three provinces to make up for shortcomings and strengths and weaknesses.
In recent years, from the perspective of water transportation, Hubei is the only province where the main stream of the Yangtze River has flowed for more than 1,000 kilometers. It has a large space and room for maneuver in the development of Yangtze River shipping, while Jiangxi and Hunan rely on the Ganjiang and Xiangjiang Rivers, and their inland waterway shipping is far ahead of the Hanjiang River. In terms of throughput, the container volume of Hubei ranks first in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, but the throughput of bulk cargo and general cargo is lower than that of Jiangxi and Hunan. From the perspective of characteristic business, Hubei port supply chain and bulk commodity trade have comparative advantages, while Jiangxi and Hunan have achieved remarkable results in imported automobiles and imported logs. From the point of view of the economic connection in the hinterland of the three provinces, the urban circle of Wuhan, the urban agglomeration of Changsha-Zhuzhou-Tanshan, and the urban agglomeration around Poyang Lake have basically formed a 1-hour internal traffic circle and a 2-hour mutual economic circle. .
According to the agreement, the three parties will effectively implement the “Agreement on the Integration of the Three Provinces in the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River into the Joint Construction of the “Belt and Road” New Pattern”, build a “combined port” of urban agglomerations in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, adhere to the principles of complementary advantages, mutual sharing of resources, and mutual benefit in development, and jointly promote The opening of new channels to sea, the expansion of supply chain business, the establishment of information sharing mechanism, the implementation of port cooperation, the cooperation of green port construction, the development of inland rivers, the interaction of freight forwarding business, etc., to build transportation, logistics and trade channels between the three provinces , promote the common growth of tripartite business, drive regional economic development, help accelerate the formation of domestic cycle advantages, and better serve major national strategies such as the “Belt and Road” initiative, the construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the construction of a transportation power, and the rise of the central region, and contribute to the economic development of the central region Provide important support for maintaining the stability of the industrial chain and supply chain of the three provinces.
