Another country wants to join the BRICS
According to TASS news agency reported on May 28, the Thai government announced in a communique released after the government meeting that the government approved the draft letter of intent for Thailand to join the BRICS countries.
“Brics membership helps elevate Thailand’s position on the international stage by strengthening cooperation with developing countries with potential to play an important economic and political role in the future, especially in the areas of trade, investment, finance, food and energy security,” the communique said.
The participants concluded that “joining BRICS also expands Thailand’s opportunities to participate in the establishment of a new world order in which emerging markets and developing countries play an important role.” Brics is inclusive and does not target any group.”
Thai government spokesman Chai Wachalo noted that non-members seeking to join the BRICS will attend the BRICS summit in Kazan from October 22 to 24. “Participation in this event will give Thailand the opportunity to accelerate the process of gaining membership and enhance its role as a major developing country,” he stressed.
