Chinese goods are in hot demand

Over the years, Chinese goods have gradually occupied the minds of overseas consumers with their strong supply chain, superb manufacturing technology and affordable prices, and some foreign e-commerce platforms have begun to focus on attracting Chinese sellers in order to enrich users' shopping choices.

Recently, Russian e-commerce giant Ozon announced that its Belarusian site - Ozon.by - has officially opened to local consumers to sell cross-border goods from China.

To be specific, Ozon Belarus currently sells about 10 million products from China, ranging from clothing to shoes to household goods, in more than 20 categories. Moreover, Ozon promised that the platform will continue to attract more merchants with Chinese sources, aiming to double the product range during December.

Ozon Belarus also said that the platform will provide free delivery services for orders from China, which typically take three to four weeks to deliver.

In this regard, Sergey Gasoyan, General Manager of Ozon Belarus Market, said: "The active consumers of Ozon in Belarus are constantly growing: in the first half of this year, the number of orders increased by more than two times compared with the same period. With the launch of sales in China, we will be able to offer more products to our customers at better prices."

In fact, this is not the first time Ozon has opened up the sale of Chinese goods to users other than Russian consumers.

In July this year, Ozon announced that it would further expand the sales field of Chinese sellers to the Kazakh market. With the opening of new markets, Chinese sellers on Ozon have the opportunity to leverage the power of 20 million Kazakh consumers to increase their sales, and Kazakh consumers can also more easily buy affordable products from China.

As for the reasons behind Ozon's preference for Chinese goods, Gasoyan explained that Chinese products are very popular in CIS countries, as their prices tend to be about 15% lower than similar products produced in other countries. Thanks to this, Ozon has successfully delivered about 20 million orders from China to customers in Russia and Kazakhstan by the first half of 2024.

Of course, Chinese goods are inexpensive and rich in categories, which is not only favored by an e-commerce platform Ozon.

In October, Yandex Market, one of Russia's largest e-commerce platforms, even launched a special section called Finds from China to display and sell cross-border goods from China. It is reported that the zone has gathered 1 million Chinese goods, covering a number of categories such as household goods and electronic products, most of which are relatively scarce products on the Russian market.

Objectively speaking, by selling Chinese products, platforms such as Ozon and Yandex Market can not only provide consumers with more product choices, but also increase their own traffic and sales. For Chinese sellers, entering the Russian e-commerce platform is also a great opportunity to expand the market and improve performance, which can be said to be a win-win situation between the platform and the seller.
