Two container ships under attack!
Burst! MSC and ONE container ship attacked, damaged and on fire!
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Sunday that Houthi forces carried out attacks on two container ships over the weekend.
On June 9, Houthi armed spokesman Yahya announced that a number of ballistic missiles were used in the Red Sea to attack the British ship (Diamond) and accurately hit the target. Meanwhile, the Houthi navy launched missile and drone attacks on two ships violating a ban on entering a port in the occupied Palestinian territory. The container ship “Norderney” was hit and caught fire, while the container ship “MSC Tavvishi” was hit and damaged in the Arabian Sea.
Reports confirmed that two ships, MSC Tavvishi and Norderney, were damaged after the attack, but no crew members were injured.
The “Norderney” (IMO:9968449), built in 2023 and flying the Antigua and Barbuda flag, is a 1,930TEU container ship owned by Briese Schiffahrts GmbH&Co of Germany and operated by ONE on the MIM route. The freighter caught fire after the missile hit part of its structure. According to the ship’s location data, the ship continued to sail after the attack.
MSC Tavvishi (IMO:9189366), built in 2000 and flying the Liberian flag, with a capacity of 5,248 TEU, is a container ship on the Petra route where MSC is deployed. No ship tracking data was received from MSC Tavvishi after 01.034 hours on 9 June.
According to the US Central Command report, MSC Tavvishi was damaged after being hit by an anti-ship missile, but it was not disclosed whether the ship caught fire.
