Россия объявила об ограничениях на импорт
Russia has decided to impose restrictions on imports of fish and other aquatic products from Japan from October 16, according to the Russian Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine Service, RIA Novosti reported on the 16th.
According to the report, the Russian Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine Service said, “As a precautionary measure, since October 16, 2023, the Russian animal and Plant inspection and Quarantine Service joined the ranks of China and temporarily imposed restrictions on the import of fish and other aquatic products from Japan.” The agency added that the restrictions remain in effect until Russia has obtained and analyzed information proving that fish products imported from Japan are safe and comply with the relevant regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union. However, the report did not specify what those restrictions were.
According to Reuters, the Russian Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine Service issued a statement on September 26, saying that after the Japanese government forcibly started the Fukushima nuclear contaminated water into the sea, Russia may join China’s ranks and impose restrictions on the import of aquatic products from Japan.
On August 24, despite strong opposition from the international community, Japan started the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea, which triggered public protests in Japan, South Korea and other countries. Matsumoto Junichi, who is in charge of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant’s decommission and ALPS treatment system, said at a news conference on the morning of the 24th that tritium concentrations in samples of diluted nuclear contaminated water collected on the 22nd had been tested, and the results showed that the mixing and dilution of nuclear-contaminated water and seawater had been completed on schedule. As weather and sea conditions on Tuesday were also favorable, the decision was made to start the discharge. According to the announcement issued by the General Administration of Customs of China later on the same day, in accordance with Chinese laws and regulations and the relevant regulations of the World Trade Organization, the General Administration of Customs of China has decided to suspend the import of aquatic products (including edible aquatic animals) with the origin of Japan from August 24, 2023.
Regarding the issue of “Japan’s initiation of the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the sea”, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a press conference on August 30 that the international community has generally criticized and taken relevant preventive measures against the Japanese government’s self-interested and extremely irresponsible act of forcing the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the sea. In accordance with Chinese laws and regulations and the relevant provisions of the WTO Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, the competent authorities of China have taken emergency measures against aquatic products of Japanese origin, which is completely justified, reasonable and necessary. Wang Wenbin also said that the root cause of the current situation is that the Japanese government ignored the strong doubts of the international community and unilaterally forcibly started the discharge of Fukushima nuclear contaminated water into the sea, bringing unpredictable risks to the global Marine environment and the health of all mankind, causing widespread indignation in the international community. The Japanese side should immediately stop the release of contaminated water into the sea and respond to the concerns of the international community in a responsible manner.
