46 контейнеров потеряны в море!

According to the latest news from foreign media, the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) reported that on August 28, local time, MSC's 6900TEU container ship "MSC Antonia" encountered bad weather while sailing off the coast of South Africa, falling into the water lost 46 containers, and another 305 containers on board were damaged.

SAMSA said in a statement: "The incident occurred approximately 29 nautical miles northeast of St John's port while the ship was en route from Colombo to New York. In view of the loss of the container, a navigational warning has been issued to all vessels operating in the affected area."

MSC Antonia will undergo a full assessment and necessary repairs at the Port of Cape Town. The agency added, "Fortunately, there were no reports of crew injuries and the ship was able to safely continue its voyage despite this incident."

It is understood that the "MSC Antonia" ship was built in 2009, IMO: 9398216, the length of 304 meters, the width of 40 meters, the load capacity of 6969TEU, flying the Liberian flag. The vessel serves MSC's India-US East route INDUS EXPRESS.
An increasing number of ships are bypassing the southern tip of Africa due to the security situation in the Red Sea, and this is reported to be the third such incident in two months. In July, the CMA CGM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN lost 44 containers in bad weather off the coast of South Africa. In August, the CMA CGM Belem lost 99 containers off the coast of South Africa.

Container ships normally travel between Asia and Europe via the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, but the vast majority have been diverted through the Cape of Good Hope to avoid attacks on ships in the Red Sea by Houthi militants in Yemen. This leaves ships that would not normally pass through southern Africa exposed to the region's severe winter storms.

The latest ship dynamics information shows that the MSC Antonia ship has arrived at the Port of Cape Town on September 2, and is still anchored in the sea area of the port, and it is expected that the subsequent shipment will be seriously delayed.

In this reminder, the cargo owners and forwarders who have recently loaded the ship, timely pay attention to the ship's dynamics, maintain communication with the shipping company, and timely understand whether there is cargo damage and subsequent shipment delays!
