Spring has arrived in the Russian e-commerce market.

E-commerce business is booming

In the fertile Russian e-commerce hot land, the e-commerce industry has been fully nourished and is thriving.

According to a report presented by Data Insight partner Fyodor Virin at the RgoMarketplaces conference in Moscow, the Russian e-commerce market is in full bloom in the first half of 2023, with the number of orders growing for the first time in a year to 94 percent in April. It has remained at around 90% since then.

It is worth mentioning that the rapid growth of the Russian e-commerce market is inseparable from the two major e-commerce giants gallop here, namely Wildberries and Ozon. In the first half of 2023, the two market leaders increased their share by 35%, and in June and July, they accounted for the highest share of all online orders at 77%, up 9% from last year. According to Data Insight, Wildberries and Ozon will account for 53% of online sales in 2023.

In fact, the competition between Wildberries and Ozon in the Russian e-commerce market is quite fierce, and their performance in the number of active sellers can smell the strong smell of the two market leaders.

According to a study published by online sales growth platform TinkoffeCommerce, the number of active sellers on the Russian e-commerce market grew by only 21% from the first quarter of 2022 to the first quarter of 2023, with Wildberries remaining the most popular platform. However, in the first quarter of 2023, the share of active sellers on Wildberries fell to 52% from 64% throughout the year, while the share of sellers trading on Ozon increased from 23% to 34%.

Perhaps it is such a struggle to create their leading position in the market, in the face of the Russian market this big cake, who want to share a little more, then you must constantly improve their own, strengthen the strength of the platform. This creates a virtuous cycle: the better the platform does, the more attractive it becomes to sellers and buyers, and the platform’s market share rises accordingly.
